ACLU seeks couples to tell their stories. PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 27 September 2007
Domestic Partners? ACLU seeks couples to tell their stories.

The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico is looking for same-
sex and unmarried straight couples who want the legal protections of
domestic partnership. Without any legal recognition of their families
same-sex couples face many harms. Health care, parenting, housing,
employment and estate planning are all in jeopardy. The same goes for
committed straight couples who choose not to marry, especially
widowed senior citizens.

Your stories of love and commitment are the best way to convince
lawmakers to make domestic partnership legal. If you are a same-sex
couple or a committed but unmarried straight couple in New Mexico, we
want to hear from you now. Please click here and complete our couples
survey:

(Be sure to mark the boxes that identify you and your partner's sex
so we know whether you are a gay or straight couple).

All stories count. Especially if you've had some obstacles around the
fact your relationship is not legally recognized. Let us know if you
or your partner were denied healthcare, medical decision-making,
housing, inheritance, child custody, etc. because you are considered
strangers by the law. Even if nothing bad has happened to you, let us
know about your loving and committed relationship.

The survey is quick and your participation is vital. Please forward
this message and the survey link to all you know in New Mexico!

“Destination Sierra County 2007” – Art Expo
Saturday, October 13, 2007  - Sunday 4 November 2007

The old Ace Hardware Building that was converted into a Fine Art Gallery by Harold Joe Waldrum in 2001, now Rio Bravo Fine Art, invites you to a major exhibition of regional art showcasing art work created by Sierra County artists for Destination Sierra County in October.

Featured for this event are works by established long time career artists such as worldwide recognized Delmas Howe, from Truth or Consequences, winner of several awards for his contributions to the arts, H. Joe Waldrum known for his dedication to capturing and preserving the churches of NM in his paintings, prints and SX – 70 Polaroids.  Archives of his linocuts and aquatint etchings can be found in the Palm Springs Art Museum, CA.

Noted Hillsboro artist Nolan Winkler masters the discipline of printing as you can see in her monotypes.  Rm. W. Winkler sculptures recreate a story rather than just a recollection as does his assemblages of found objects.  David Farrell interprets the harmonies of the natural world in paint and records colors that are unique to a particular light situation.

Dave Barnett recreates in oils and acrylics the landscapes of New Mexico from his studio in Elephant Butte.

While viewing the show you will come across the works of young emerging talent such as Chantal Mitchell, Jeremy Earickson, Gustavo A. Muñoz and a large number of paintings, sculptures, ceramics, drawings, neon, fiber art and beyond from over 30 Sierra County artists.

Come and join us and enjoy “Destination Sierra County 2007” – Art Expo.
